ONE SUB.
SINCE 1967.

Marian's Cooked Hot Italian. The sandwich that has kept Ruskin coming back since 1967.

Hot ham, cooked salami and provolone toasted on hot bread, finished with the cold stuff. One sandwich, seven days a week, from the same little shop on U.S. 41, made the same way since the day the shop opened.

The Marian Sumner story

She built a legacy daily between two slices of bread.

RUSKIN, FLA. Marian Sumner opened her sub shop in 1967, back when Ruskin was still a rural town. She built the whole business around a single sandwich: an Italian sub with salami and ham, and that was all she needed to become a local institution.

Third generation in Ruskin, she knew the area and the area knew her. She arrived at 7:30 every morning and stayed until the shop closed at 8. For 25 years, she was the only one who worked there.

She ran the shop at U.S. 41 and College Avenue S until almost the end of her life. The sandwich outlived her. It hasn't changed.

"Everyone knew Marian, and everyone knew Marian's sandwich shop. Everyone still does."

Joe Sumner II, her son

Marian was famously direct about her sandwich, too. As her daughter-in-law Cindy tells it: "If you didn't care for something on the sandwich, Marian had a solution ready. You could always go pick it out in the parking lot, baby."
